I can’t believe it’s been 11 years since the Big 3 was formed. I’ll never forget the buzz around the city at the time, everybody was excited for the season to start and basketball was back in Boston.
This trade started the trend of players teaming up. The league saw what the Celtics did and took notice. The Celtics traded for Allen and KG much different than the next Big 3 to come in the NBA. Which consisted of LeBron, Wade, and Bosh down in Miami.
This Celtics Big 3 was perfect. They had a defensive anchor in KG, a true three-point shooter in Allen and an all-around player and captain in Pierce. It was a franchise moving trade when they traded for KG. He embraced being in Boston and without this trade, things would be completely different.
Celtics fans had their hearts ripped out when they lost the lottery but Trader Danny did not disappoint. Danny Ainge is really the master of trades, he is responsible for two of the biggest steals in NBA history. The T’wolves got basically nothing for KG, it does help though when ex Celtic great Kevin McHale is running the Wolves at the time.
The formation of the Big 3 saved Celtics basketball. They captured the heart of everybody in Boston and delivered banner 17. It sucks they lost in 2010 but at least we have 2008.
