There has been a lot of draft bust over the years. It sucks to see someone with so much talent not live up to the hype but as they say in Trailer Park Boys “It’s the way she goes”, let’s take a look at some of the most recent draft bust.
Anthony Bennett: Cleveland Cavilers
The reaction from everybody after the pick should’ve been enough to know Bennett would be a bust. Nobody saw him going #1 but Cleveland is going to do Cleveland things and make the wrong decision. Bennet started four games and averaged 4.4 points and .5 assist during his career. He is currently playing in the G-Leauge for the Maine Red Claws.
JaMarcus Russell: Oakland Raiders
Russell was a gunslinger down at LSU and he had potential to be a stud in the NFL. Three years into he career Russell found himself without a job. He came into training camp at 305 pounds. The Raiders could have drafted Calvin Johnson instead. Russell finished with a 7-18 record during his career.
Ryan Leaf: San Diego Chargers
Coming out of college Leaf was one of the top prospects. The question going into the draft was “Do we draft Leaf or Manning?”, looking back at this now it is laughable. Manning had a Hall of Fame career and Leaf went off the rails. Leaf finished with 14 touchdowns in 25 games during his three-year career.
Darco Milicic: Detroit Pistons
If I’m the Pistons I’m still kicking myself over this pick. You had a chance to draft Melo, Wade or Chris Bosh and you took Darco. They went on to win the championship the following year but you draft any of those three the Pistons dominance continues for years to come. Darco’s first three years in the league he averaged 1.6 PPG and then he got shipped to Orlando.
There obviously more draft bust that we can get into but leave comments on who we missed.
